Hi, I’m Matty.
   2019/09/16 12:08pm
This is my proof of tilde life. I can still log in. 👋 2014/10/20 10:59pm
The recipients of an email from my dad: 2014/10/20 10:23pm
I am still sick. If you count the time since my first throat scratch, it’s been two weeks. This is disheartening.
I’ve also discovered the pains of making your child sick. He’s incredibly happy almost all the time, but he’s coughing and has a runny nose and hates when I suction the gunk out of his nose. It’s a great incentive to stop getting sick.
I keep making apple pies because they’re delicious, but I’m having trouble with the crust. I’m probably putting too much faith into Four & Twenty Blackbirds.
Okay, back to working on Kidpost. 2014/10/16 11:36pm
I buy into the spirit of tilde, but I realize I care more about the stripped down content than the limited technology. So I said goodbye to the webring and hello to some webfonts. In other words, here comes another blog.
It’s been 15 months since my last day at OkCupid Labs. In that time, I’ve done a few things.

I had a baby. His name is Jackson and he’s almost 7 months old. There’s a picture of him in my first post here. Jori and I found out she was pregnant on her birthday, a few weeks after becoming unemployeed.
I built Facebox with Khoi. It took 3 weeks and was a lot of fun. We mostly worked out of the SVA IXD office. We ran into Paul a lot and that was nice. At this point, I thought I’d give freelance a shot. I had always planned to take time off or quit my job when a baby arrived; this made it easier.
Anil asked me to help get ThinkUp ready for their crowdfunding campaign. I agreed and I’ve been working with him and Gina ever since. I already knew Anil was awesome, but now I know Gina is too. 👍
Khoi and I tried to dream up ways to make money and keep our independce. One day, he explained the seed of an idea he had for Kidpost. Despite our busy schedules, we’re close to properly launching this thing. I realize I’m a snob about it, but this is the only way I’d ever want to do a startup. Work hard with friends and try to build something people value with their time and money.
Two weeks after Jackson was born, I tried to work from home for a week. Three weeks after Jackson was born, I rented a desk at a coworking space 5 blocks from my apartment. Having no commute and a freelance gig meant tons of time with my son. This is probably the best decision I have made in my life.
Almost a month ago, I started contracting for 29th Street Publishing — more work with talented friends (hi David, Alaina, and Nozlee). Even though I’ve been primarily doing front-end dev this last year, I’ve only done design work for 29th St. up until today. That’s an odd change of pace, but it feels good to break a pattern.

Obviously, there are tons of stories to tell about childrearing and the wonders of parenthood, but I’m not here to dadsplain. Also, it’s midnight. G’night, t.club. 2014/10/03 11:23pm I’ve uploaded all of my original websites here. You can find my first homepage (and second and third), my Guster fan page, and my Ben Folds Five fan page.
There were some hard-hitting essays, like “Don’t Buy Cheap Dairy”, but I was sensitive too.
